If you have a Windows system and want to install a printer far from your computer using a print server you should definitely read this howto.Conventions used

This Howto is not strict related My Handy Restaurant, but more specifically to installing a generic network printer in Windows SO.
Although My Handy Restaurant perfectly works under GNU/Linux, in this page it is supposed you are using a Microsoft Windows operating system.
If you're using such system and want install on it My Handy Restaurant, please take reference of specific Windows howto.

The system used to test this howto is Microsoft Windows2000 professional. The attached printserver is D-link DP-101P+.



Requirements

    * Computer with Microsoft Windows OS
    * Lan cable
    * Printserver
    * Printer




Install the printer

Open "Control Panel".
Then open "Printers" icon, and "add new printer".
Next.
Select the Local printer choice.(even if your printer is really "network printer"! because it use a printserver and it's connected with lan cable) -stupid SO!-
Deflag plug&play box.
Next.
Create new port: Standard TCP/IP Port
Name of ip address: Insert you ip printer address (eg. 192.168.1.253)
Name of the port: Insert the name of the port checked in management printer software (eg. PS-59165A).
Next.
Type of periferal: Standard Generic Network Card.
Next.
Wait few seconds.
Productor: Generic - Printer: generic / text only.
Next.
Give a name to the printer (eg. lanprinter).
Next.
Print test page?
No. (If YES it will print a very looooong page)



Testing the printer

Go to the Control panel -->printers
Right click on the printer you've only just installed.
Proprieties.
Print test page.
(attention: it will print a lot of text!!!)



Installing the printer in My Handy Restaurant

Point your browser in http://localhost/myhandyrestaurant_dir/ and enter the management section.
From the system menu choose printers.
Click on the insert a new record link.
In the following form you can leave the ID as suggested by the system. Set internal name as you wish, it can be any name you want because it will only be used to identify this printer in My Handy Restaurant.
Now fill the printing queue name with the name you provided wile installing the printer in Microsoft Windows. It should be exactly the same name, otherwise you will get no print.
The others fields are self explanatory and will also be covered in a dedicated howto.
Submit the form.
Now point your browser on http://localhost/myhandyrestaurant_dir/conf/
Here you have to choose the printing system.
For windows choose Win. Other choices are for unix/linux OSes.

Now the printer you installed should be available and working in both the system and in My Handy Restaurant.
